What Las Canarias look like?

Where are the Canary Islands?

The Canary Islands or las Islas Canarias in Spanish, are located off of the west coast of northern Africa, enjoying a sub-tropical climate referred to as “eternal spring.” They are a popular tourist destination for Spaniards and foreigners alike and have varied terrain and interesting volcanic landscapes. Four of Spain’s national parks are located there. The Canary Islands include seven islands of varying sizes: Tenerife (the largest of the islands), La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

Currently, the economy of the islands depends primarily on tourism, however bananas and tobacco are also grown and exported, as well as sugar cane and a number of exotic fruits

Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade – op.35

Ajoutée par  le  6 janv. 2011

Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra on Great Christmas Concert 2010 in Cankarjev dom (Gallus Hall). Amazing concert was sold out in a couple of hours. Solo violin: Matjaž Bogataj. Conductor: maestro Nejc Bečan. Concert direction: Primož Zevnik. The audience was thrilled by virtuoso playing and special stage charm and energy. Legendary.

I’m really confused as to why they didn’t get a standing ovation. This piece moved me to tears when I first saw it. Every emotion floods through my heart when I hear this and I can’t imagine a better piece to watch being performed.

Curiosity Finds River Rocks and River Beds on Mars

Publiée le  1 oct. 2012 par

NASA’s Curiosity rover mission has found evidence a stream once flowed across the area on Mars where the rover is driving. There is earlier evidence for the presence of water on Mars, but this evidence — images of rocks containing ancient streambed gravels — is the first of its kind.

Scientists are studying the images of stones cemented into a layer of conglomerate rock. The sizes and shapes of stones offer clues to the speed and distance of a long-ago stream’s flow. Continue reading

We love the internet.

And we’re guessing you do too. Think about all the awesome things it gives us: A vast communication network; innovative businesses; a platform to freely speak or challenge powerful governments; and hundreds and hundreds of hours of cat videos.

All this great stuff is available because the internet was designed in an open and inclusive way, with a multitude of voices being able to get a say on how it’s governed.

But the internet is in danger.

There’s a meeting between the world’s governments in a just a few weeks, and it could very well decide the future of the internet through a binding international treaty. It’s called the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT), and it’s being organized by a government-controlled UN agency called the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
